How I got started

Hi there,

How did I get started in Doctor Who? Well, it was a day back in about 1981 or 82 when it premiered on the local PBS (Public Broadcasting) station. I was looking through the TV Guide with a friend of mine and we both saw the name in the listing saying Doctor Who and it had then “Robot” listed as the episode name. We had no idea what that meant, but we decided to give it a try. I was kind of shocked when I saw a white-haired gentleman (I didn’t know at the time that was Jon Pertwee) change into a younger-looking brown-haired gentleman with slightly curly hair. But after only a few minutes I forgot about the change. I loved the story and the pace it was going, it was like watching a movie. The station showed it in what some call movie format, thus not showing how it was originally broadcast on the BBC of 4 different 25-minute episodes in the whole story. I discovered it was a series and watched it the following week with another story done the same way. As the weeks went on I loved more and more of it. I am unsure exactly when I told my sisters and my parents about it, but soon they became fans of the show. My older sister was the only one not interested in it, but she had her interests. My dad liked it on how we watched together as a family.
